Designs by Jessalyn, as a brand, started in November of 2019 initially as a fossilized shark tooth jewelry business with a focus on ocean conservation. Designs by Jessalyn became an LLC in early 2021 with the site launching in February.
In the fall of 2021, the first Halloween collection was made and that was where the passion sparked and made a full shift into the macabre. It was important to still make sure our products and shipping had a low impact on the environment but the entire brand received a re-vamp in 2022 into doing Halloween 365 days a year.
What is Designs by Jessalyn?
Designs by Jessalyn, LLC is a handmade jewelry brand created to give you a space to embrace all things spooky and weird, all year long. Our focus is to create unique, wearable pieces inspired by the darker side of things while also keeping our impact on the planet as low as we can. All products are plastic-free (our clear earring backers are made of rubber) and all orders ship in compostable or recyclable materials. As a brand, we don't put our accessories into gendered categories because we believe anyone should wear what makes them feel good.
Who is Jessalyn?
Designs by Jessalyn, LLC is owned and fully operated by, you may have guessed it, me, Jessalyn (she/her). I have always had a passion for creating since I was a kid and that brought me to a full-time career in apparel design. When I started working in the industry, I wanted to create a space outside of my career, to express my specific point of view and have full creative freedom. As a kid I always would wear all of my Grandma's jewelry and that really sparked by love for accessories and this felt like the perfect opportunity to tap back into that passion.
As a kid, I was terrified of anything relating to Halloween but eventually I started to enjoy the lighter sides of Halloween but refused to go anywhere near the scary elements. In the fall of 2021, I jumped into those fears and found something I wasn't expecting. My first Halloween collection was designed to add a level of humor and irony of the things people are often afraid of and since then I've completely embraced the irony of creating something beautiful and weird out of something that I once found really scary.
How do you keep impact low?
In an effort to reduce the impact of Designs by Jessalyn, products are designs to be wearable beyond the spooky season so you get the most use out of the purchases you make. All our products are made with various metals, glass, crystals, and semi-precious gemstones. Products are plastic-free and the only caveat is that our dangle earring styles come with a rubber stopper to secure the earrings in place.
For material sourcing, I do my best to order from smaller businesses wherever possible, especially if they offer carbon offset shipping.
Our packaging varies depending on the size of the order, but all materials can be either composted or recycled. It's important to invest in these specialty packaging methods to maintain that focus on harm reduction as a business. Shipping & Fulfillment Policy
All orders are processed within 2 to 5 business days (excluding weekends, holidays, or otherwise disclosed dates) after receiving your order confirmation email and payment confirmation. You will receive another notification when your order has shipped. We offer flat rates of $4.99 standard USPS First Class Mail and $8.99 USPS Priority Mail shipping to the United States. All orders with subtotals $50 and over receive free standard USPS First Class Mail shipping. Dunn County residence can select Dunn County shipping for a standard rate of $2 for a contactless delivery. We are unable to fulfill orders outside of the United States at this time. If you haven’t received your order within 7-10 days of receiving your shipping confirmation email, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and order number, and we will look into it for you.
